About Us
Creativity, family, and meaningful messages are at the heart of everything we create. Our work is inspired by the artwork of Wisconsin artist Michael Macone, whose colorful designs and heartfelt sentiments celebrate the moments and relationships that shape everyday life.
Our story began when Michael discovered pottery in high school. Originally planning to pursue painting, he was introduced to the possibilities of clay by a pottery instructor who opened the door to an entirely new creative path. After studying at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, Michael returned to clay and began creating one of a kind pieces that combined imagery, texture, and storytelling.
As his work developed, Michael traveled throughout the country exhibiting his pottery and artwork, often bringing his young family along on the journey. Over time, the creative process became a true family endeavor.
Today, we continue that tradition from our studio in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, where art, creativity, and community come together. Our gallery and café invite visitors to explore their own creativity through pottery and other artistic experiences while experiencing the artwork that inspires everything we do.
Our work is shared through two primary collections. Spooner Creek features handcrafted ceramic tiles and decorative pieces that combine inspirational messages with colorful folk art designs. These pieces have become meaningful gifts and keepsakes that can be found in gift shops and galleries across the country.
Macone Clay represents the collaborative work of our family team including Michael, his sons Miles and Clayton, and his son-in-law Dan Temple. Together we continue exploring new materials and techniques while staying true to the artistic style that defines our work.
We approach clay much like an artist approaches canvas. For us, the pottery itself is simply the surface. What matters most are the images, textures, and messages that we draw, engrave, and stamp into the clay. More recently, we have incorporated wood into our designs, allowing us to create unique clay and wood combinations that add depth and dimension to our artwork.
Every piece we create is meant to celebrate the relationships, memories, and meaningful moments that make life special. We are grateful to spend our days creating artwork that brings joy to homes and families across the country.
